Authorities are investigating a deadly head-on crash near Corning that killed six people, including a local bus passenger, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim was identified as Oscar Casas Carrillo, 41, of Corning. CHP officials said he was riding on a TRAX public bus when a southbound Toyota Tacoma crossed into oncoming traffic on State Route 99 west and struck the bus head-on.

The collision occurred around 10 a.m. south of Gyle Road. Officials said the bus caught fire after the crash, contributing to the severity of the incident.

CHP is continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision with assistance from other agencies.
