The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal wrong-way collision on Highway 99 that resulted in the death of a 58-year-old man and injuries to two others.

The crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. south of Clinton Avenue when a Ford Ranger traveling northbound collided with two southbound vehicles, a Ford Bronco and a Chevrolet Equinox. Authorities said the southbound drivers tried to evade the oncoming vehicle but were unable to avoid impact.

Paul Nichelmann, the driver of the Ford Ranger, died after being taken to a hospital. The two women involved in the crash were hospitalized with injuries. No additional details were immediately released.
