A head-on collision on Panorama Point Road near Anderson on Sunday evening left Cottonwood resident Paul Pascual Jr. seriously injured and claimed the life of another driver, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 7 p.m. south of Kimberly Road when a northbound GMC Yukon crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound Chevrolet pickup driven by the 77-year-old Pascual. The Yukon overturned after impact, caught fire, and came to rest on railroad tracks.

Emergency responders pronounced the 25-year-old Anderson man driving the SUV dead at the scene. Pascual sustained major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators reported that drugs and alcohol were not believed to have played a role in the crash. The cause of the centerline crossing remains under investigation by CHP.
