Authorities are investigating a fatal boating accident on the Caloosahatchee River that left three people dead and one seriously injured, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.
The incident occurred at about 5 p.m. when an MTI 390 powerboat overturned between Cape Coral and Fort Myers. FWC noted that the vessel’s outboard motors appeared to detach during the rollover, throwing all four occupants into the water.
Rebecca Knight was taken to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. A second victim also died after being transported for treatment, while the body of Craig Millett of Cape Coral was located the next day near Redfish Point.
One surviving passenger was reported to be in critical but stable condition. Several local and federal agencies assisted at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
