Fresno police are continuing to investigate a traffic collision that ultimately claimed the life of Richard Cortes, a 42-year-old father of six, several days after the incident occurred.
According to investigators, Cortes was traveling west on Olive Avenue on the evening of May 25 when a silver Jeep making a left turn entered his path, causing a collision.
Emergency responders transported Cortes to a hospital, where he received treatment for serious injuries. Family members said he passed away on May 30 as a result of those injuries.
Authorities reported that the driver of the Jeep initially left the scene after the crash but later returned. Police have not released additional information regarding potential charges.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created to help the Cortes family with funeral expenses and other financial needs following the tragedy.
The crash remains under active investigation.
