Authorities are investigating a fatal train crash that claimed the life of a Salinas man Monday night.
The Monterey County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 49-year-old Robert Rufus Thomas Jr., who was struck by an Amtrak Coast Starlight train near the Salinas station.
Details regarding how the incident occurred have not yet been released. Rail service in the area was delayed for hours following the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
