
Authorities are investigating a fatal small plane crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon near Sacramento McClellan Airport.
According to the FAA, a single-engine aircraft carrying Ronnie Metcalf, 70, crashed in a field west of the airport near Claire Avenue and Rio Linda Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. The plane had departed from Rio Linda Airport moments earlier.
Emergency crews from the Sacramento Fire Department extricated Metcalf from the aircraft. He was transported to a hospital after responders briefly restored his pulse, but he later died from his injuries.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
