Santa Rosa police arrested a man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left two elderly occupants critically injured on Christmas Day.

The collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Fourth Street and Bryden Lane, where a Chevrolet Suburban struck a Volkswagen Beetle occupied by a 71-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman, authorities said. Investigators stated the driver of the Suburban fled the scene before officers arrived.

The suspect, identified as Ryan Hughes, was later found at a local motel and taken into custody. He faces charges of hit-and-run causing great bodily injury and violation of Postrelease Community Supervision. The crash remains under investigation.
