Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a hit-and-run crash that severely injured a Fort Myers man in Arcadia early Wednesday.

Ryan Thomas was traveling on his motorcycle on Airport Road near S.E. Airport Estates Street just after 5 a.m. when a pickup truck collided with him and left the scene, authorities said. Emergency responders said Thomas had to call 911 himself, and a sheriff’s deputy applied a tourniquet to control life-threatening bleeding.

Doctors amputated Thomas’s right leg below the knee. He is currently undergoing physical therapy and preparing for a prosthetic limb.

FHP is seeking a black Ford F-150, model years 2009-2014, and urges anyone with information about the crash to contact the department.
