A motorcyclist was left critically injured Wednesday morning after a Lexus SUV turned into his path in Redding, leading to the arrest of the SUV's driver, police said.

According to Redding police, the 23-year-old motorcyclist was traveling south on State Route 273 near Kenyon Road at approximately 9:40 a.m. when a Lexus SUV turned directly in front of him. The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the vehicle, colliding with it and being ejected from his motorcycle upon impact.

He was rushed to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for treatment of his injuries. His identity has not been released by authorities.

Police identified the driver of the Lexus as 66-year-old Shyla Watson-Barker of Redding. Following an investigation at the scene, she was arrested and taken to the Shasta County Jail, where she was booked on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and felony DUI causing injury with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent or higher.

Redding police have not released further details and say the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
