
Authorities are investigating a six-vehicle crash in Chico that left one woman dead and several others injured Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred around 1 p.m. near East Lassen Avenue and the Esplanade when a speeding vehicle reportedly ran a red light and struck another car at the intersection. The impact caused a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles, including a transit bus.
Tawny Christner, 63, of Clearlake Oaks, was a passenger in one of the struck vehicles and suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other individuals, including the driver of the speeding vehicle, were transported to a hospital for treatment. The investigation remains ongoing.
