Law enforcement officials in Oceanside are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian early Thursday morning.
According to Oceanside police, a Toyota Tacoma struck a pedestrian near Mission Avenue and Mesa Drive around 5:15 a.m. while traveling westbound.
The pedestrian died from injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity.
Investigators said the driver fled the scene but was later apprehended and identified as Valentin Hernandez, an Oceanside resident.
Hernandez faces charges including DUI and hit-and-run causing death as the investigation continues.
