A Redlands woman was killed Thursday night after being struck by a pickup truck near a southbound stretch of Orange Street, the Redlands Police Department reported.
Virginia Yglesias, 38, was hit by a pickup truck that was towing a small trailer near the intersection of Orange Street and Pioneer Avenue at around 10 p.m. on June 25. Yglesias was declared deceased at the scene. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department subsequently identified her as the victim of the fatal crash.
The truck's driver, a 56-year-old man whose identity has not been released, did not flee the scene. He contacted law enforcement following the collision, and responding officers reported that he did not appear to be impaired. No arrests had been made as of the initial report.
The Redlands Police Department confirmed the investigation remains active. Authorities have not yet disclosed what led to the vehicle striking Yglesias or whether any additional factors such as roadway conditions, lighting, or visibility contributed to the crash. Further updates are expected as the inquiry continues.
The collision occurred along a stretch of Orange Street that connects residential areas to commercial corridors in Redlands, a city of roughly 80,000 residents in San Bernardino County. Pedestrian safety along busy surface streets in the region has drawn increased attention in recent years as California continues to grapple with some of the nation's highest pedestrian fatality rates.
