Authorities are continuing to investigate a fatal pedestrian collision in Hemet that claimed the life of 57-year-old William Taylor on Friday night.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Taylor was using a motorized wheelchair when he was struck shortly before 9 p.m. at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Menlo Avenue.

Taylor, a Hemet resident, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died despite medical efforts to save him.

Investigators arrested the driver involved in the collision on suspicion of driving under the influence. Officials have not released additional information regarding the motorist or any potential charges.

The Hemet Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information related to the incident to come forward as investigators work to determine all contributing factors.
